Police bust baby sale ring in Thailand

4:52 pm on 26 February 2011

Authorities in Thailand are investigating a criminal ring which reportedly forced women to have babies which were then sold.

Police say they have arrested several people from Taiwan, China and Myanmar.

The women involved were Vietnamese, the BBC reports.

The business, called Baby 101, advertises surrogate motherhood services in Thailand.

However, the BBC is quoting Thai officials as saying some of the pregnant women had been forced into it and it looks like some were raped.

The arrests were made after some of the women sent an email to the Vietnamese embassy in Bangkok.
