Egypt's military use force on protesters

10:12 am on 27 February 2011

Protesters in Egypt say soldiers have fired in the air and used batons to disperse activists demanding the new military leaders overhaul the cabinet.

Thousands of people had gathered in Cairo's Tahrir Square to celebrate the removal of Hosni Mubarak as president two weeks ago.

Activists were calling for the military to remove politicians who had been appointed by the former president.

But after midnight, the protesters said the military fired in the air and moved in on protesters to force them to leave the square.
