Beatles museum opens in Hamburg

9:48 am on 1 June 2009

A new museum dedicated to the Beatles has opened in Hamburg, Germany, 49 years since the band first played in a run-down strip club there.

The museum, called Beatlemania, includes five floors of artefacts and interactive exhibits. It is in the Reeperbahn area of Hamburg where the band appeared during five different stints between 1960 - 1962.

The Beatles - at that time John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Stuart Sutcliffe and Pete Best - first took the stage at the Indra club on 17 August, 1960.
