Swine flu cancels military parade

12:50 pm on 6 June 2009

The Trooping of the Queen's Colour parade at Duntroon has become a casualty of the swine flu outbreak in Canberra.

The ABC reports the annual event at the Royal Military College had to be cancelled after a cadet contracted the H1N1 virus. He and several other cadets are in isolation.

In a statement, Defence apologised for the cancellation of the parade, saying the "wellbeing" of the cadets was its "highest priority."

ACT Health confirmed two more swine flu cases late on Friday afternoon, taking Canberra's total number of cases to seven.

Health Minister Nicola Roxon said on Friday morning there were 878 confirmed cases of swine flu in Australia.

Victoria had the most confirmed cases at 752. New South Wales was second with 74. Queensland had 31 cases of the virus.
