Japanese stock market continues slide

10:48 pm on 15 March 2011

As Japan battles to recover from its worst recorded earthquake, huge tsunami and a deteriorating nuclear plant, shares at Tokyo's stock market fell for a second consecutive day.

The main Nikkei 225 index was down 6% in Tuesday trading. On Monday it finished 7% lower, the biggest one-day drop since 2008.

The broader Topix index was also lower on Tuesday, declining 7.3%.
