Estonian cyclists kidnapped in Lebanese valley

3:32 pm on 24 March 2011

Security sources in Lebanon say seven Estonians riding bicycles in the Bekaa valley have been kidnapped by masked gunmen.

The exact circumstances of the kidnapping, in an eastern industrial zone, remain unclear.

The cyclists had apparently crossed into Lebanon from Syria.

Estonian consul Sami Kamouh said security forces had recovered their identity papers and mobile phones that were left at the scene.

The army has confirmed seven Europeans are missing.
