Bomb attack kills Afghan tribal elder

5:30 am on 14 April 2011

A suicide bomber has killed at least 10 people in Afghanistan, including a pro-government tribal elder.

A Taliban spokesman denied the group carried out the attack, saying that Haji Malik Zarin had "his own enemies".

Mr Zarin, a close ally of President Hamid Karzai, was killed in the blast in Kunar province near the Pakistan border, the BBC reports.

His son and another family member also died in the attack.
