Quake hits north Queensland

Far north Queensland was rocked by a 5.2-magnitude earthquake which was felt in a number of towns including Townsville, Mackay and Airlie Beach.

The United States Geological Survey says the quake was centred 124 kilometres south-east of Townsville and was 10km below the surface.

It hit at 3.30pm local time on Saturday.

The ABC says there are no reports of damage.

Earlier reports said the quake was measured at magnitude 5.4.
