Fires have now burned more than one million acres (400,000 heactares) in Texas and are still advancing in dry hot, windy weather.
The Texas Forest Service says one fire, burning near Possum Kingdom Lake, near the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area, has destroyed at least 31 homes.
CNN reports it is threatening more than 600 others.
