Pope urges diplomacy and dialogue in Libya

4:23 pm on 25 April 2011

Pope Benedict Pope Benedict XVI made reference to the conflict in Libya during his Easter Sunday message.

He urged ''diplomacy and dialogue'' instead of arms in Libya and prayed that ''human dignity may overcome the darkness of division'' in the Middle East.

"In the countries of northern Africa and the Middle East, may all citizens, especially young people, work to promote the common good," he said.

The Pope was addressing the faithful in St Peter's Square.
