Royal Family bans satirical take on wedding

The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) has had to cancel plans for satirical commentary on Friday's royal wedding.

The ABC was to have aired satirical commentary by the Chaser comedy team but the Royal Family and the BBC have changed the conditions for use of the network's live feed.

Under the terms of an agreement between the BBC and Clarence House, the private office of the Prince of Wales, it has now been stipulated that live footage of Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding must not be part of drama, comedy or satirical coverage.

The ABC's director of television, Kim Dalton, says pressing ahead with the Chaser commentary would have put the network in a difficult position.

The ABC will still broadcast traditional coverage on one of its channels, but the Chasers' live special on another channel has been pulled.
