Thai, Cambodian fighting resumes

9:36 am on 30 April 2011

There has been further fighting between Thai and Cambodian forces in a disputed border area despite a ceasefire agreed on Thursday.

It is the eighth day of clashes between the two sides over a relatively small area of land and around a 900-year-old temple.

The BBC quotes Thai officials as saying one of their soldiers had died and four others had been wounded in the latest exchange, bringing to 16 the total deaths in the latest fighting.

However, Thailand's deputy prime minister said the truce was still in force since the soldiers had used their personal weapons only.

The ceasefire would only be breached, he said, if artillery fire was used.
