American evangelist Billy Graham is in hospital in North Carolina with pneumonia.
In a statement, officials at Mission Hospital in Asheville said Mr Graham, 92, was in fair condition on Thursday.
He was admitted on Wednesday and spent a comfortable night there.
His temperature was normal and he has been encouraged to resume his regular activities, including physical therapy.
The hospital said Mr Graham had expressed gratitude for the outpouring of concern and prayers from people across the country.
Mr Graham's crusades took him around the world, including to Russia, China, and North and South Korea. His wife, Ruth, died in June 2007.
