Emergency measures in Fiji to control typhoid

A two-week public health emergency is in force in the Fiji province of Bua in an effort to control typhoid.

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, Peni Namotu, says there is a hotspot in Bua with 41 confirmed cases, Radio New Zealand International reports.

Mr Namotu says the emergency regulations limit movement to and from the province, prohibit mass gatherings and provide extra resources and education about the illness.
