West Bank work ban ordered against Al-Jazeera

6:22 am on 16 July 2009

The Palestinian Authority has banned Al-Jazeera television from working in the West Bank.

A day before the ban, Al-Jazeera broadcast an accusation that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas was involved in a conspiracy with Israel to kill former Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat in 2003.

Arafat died in a Paris hospital in 2004 of an undisclosed ailment.

The Palestinian information ministry says Al-Jazeera has broadcast falsehoods and will face legal action over the report.
