United States President Barack Obama has designated $US1.825 billion for emergency use to fight the swine flu pandemic.

The money will be used to buy vaccine ingredients to help health officials plan for immunisation campaigns.

Mr Obama says says it will also help get vaccines approved at the US Food & Drug Administration.

Congress has already appropriated $US7.65 billion to the Department of Health & Human Services for the swine flu pandemic.
