Denmark is planning to lay claim to a large area of the Arctic seabed, including that of the North Pole.

The Danish foreign ministry says it is preparing documents to submit to the United Nations in support of its claim and will publish them next month, the BBC reports.

The natural resources of the Arctic are becoming more accessible as the ice melts due to global warming.

Denmark's Arctic territory includes the Faroe Islands and Greenland.
