Road crew attacked by Taliban

Thirty five people were killed and 20 wounded In Afghanistan when the Taliban attacked a road construction company in the eastern province of Paktia, which borders Pakistan.

The attack took place on a mountain highway linking Paktia and Khost provinces. It lasted for several hours.

The Taliban recently declared the start of a ''spring offensive''.

The head of the Galaxy Star construction company said the crew was attacked by more than 100 fighters at 2am local time on Thursday. Vehicles and equipment were destroyed.

The attack is the highest death toll in a single incident since the Taliban struck at a bank in Jalalabad, also in the east, in February, killing 38 people.
