US to help Russia join OECD

9:20 am on 26 May 2011

The United States will work to help Russia join the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), an organisation dominated by Western nations with advanced market economies.

The US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, says the US is looking forward to working with Russia as it moves towards full membership.

She was speaking after Moscow signed an anti-bribery convention and became a member of an OECD working group on bribery in international business transactions.

Russia is regarded as one of the most corrupt countries for doing business. Transparency International rates it 154th out of 178 nations.
