FIFA begins ethics hearing against Blatter

7:01 am on 28 May 2011

FIFA has opened ethics proceedings against its president, Sepp Blatter.

Similar proceedings began earlier this week against Mohamed bin Hammam, the man challenging Mr Blatter for the presidency of the organisation.

The BBC reports that Mr Bin Hammam has complained that Blatter knew about alleged cash payments.

Bin Hammam and vice-president Jack Warner will also be at Sunday's hearing to answer charges of bribery.

Bin Hammam and three others are accused of offering bribes at a meeting of the Caribbean Football Union earlier this month.

There have been weeks of damaging headlines and accusations since the votes for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.

Blatter has been president of FIFA since 1998. Presidential elections are due to be held on Wednesday.
