Albertina Sisulu, one of South Africa's leading anti-apartheid activists, has died in Johannesburg.

Mrs Sisulu, 92, was married to the former African National Congress president Walter Sisulu.

Known as 'Mama' Sisulu she played an inspirational role during the apartheid years, despite being detained and put under house arrest many times reports the ABC.

One of her last public appearances was to visit former president Nelson Mandela in hospital earlier this year.
