Seven Americans on terrorism charges

5:25 pm on 28 July 2009

Seven Americans have been charged with conspiring to provide material support to terrorists and conspiring to murder, kidnap, maim and injure people abroad.

The seven men were arrested in North Carolina.

Officials say one of the seven men, Daniel Boyd, 39, trained in Afghanistan and fought there between 1989 and 1992.

The Justice Department says he recruited others to engage in terrorism abroad after he returned to the United States.

It says he conspired to help young men travel overseas in order to kill.
