Minister killed by niece

Somali Interior Minister Abdi Shakur Sheikh Hassan has been killed in a suicide bomb attack at his home in the capital, Mogadishu.

Officials say the bomber was his teenage niece, who had visited his home several times in recent days.

The BBC reports that the guards did not carry out a security check.

She reportedly walked into the house, set off the bomb, and was killed instantly on Saturday.

The minister died from his injuries before he could be flown to Kenya for treatment.

The al-Shabab group said it carried out the attack and said more would follow.

It was the third suicide attack in Mogadishu in three weeks.
