Two killed in Turkish pipeline blast

11:55 am on 11 August 2010

Two people have been killed and one person wounded in southeastern Turkey when suspected Kurdish militants blew up a pipeline carrying Iraqi oil.

Security sources say flames from the remotely detonated explosion set the victims' vehicles on fire on a motorway that runs close to the pipeline in Simak province.

The outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party, which has claimed responsibility for similar attacks in the past, is being blamed for triggering the explosion on the Kirkuk-Ceyhan pipeline, which carries about a quarter of Iraq's crude oil exports.
