Second go-round of ash cancels flights in Australia

5:57 am on 21 June 2011

Australia's major domestic carriers have all cancelled flights on Tuesday because of the reappearance of an ash plume from a volcano in Chile.

The ABC reports Qantas has cancelled about 25 flights in and out of Adelaide and Port Lincoln from 6.30am until 2pm.

Jetstar has cancelled select flights to and from Adelaide for the morning only.

Virgin says it will suspend all flights in and out of Adelaide and Mildura for the entire day, while Tiger has cancelled its flights to and from Adelaide and between Sydney and Melbourne until about 2pm.

The ash cloud is circling the Earth for a second time and is expected to reach South Australia by early Tuesday morning.

The Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre in Darwin says the cloud may then continue north-east into New South Wales.
