After a trial lasting six weeks, a court in Florida has found a single mother not guilty of murdering her two-year-old daughter.

Prosecutors said Casey Anthony, 25, suffocated Caylee because she kept her back from a life of partying.

At first Ms Anthony said the girl was kidnapped by a nanny, then at trial said Caylee drowned in a swimming pool.

A jury has cleared her of the most serious charges. However, Ms Anthony was found guilty of four charges of lying to law enforcement officers and is to be sentenced on Thursday.

The BBC reports the case has gripped the United States since Caylee vanished in 2008.

Her skeletal remains were discovered in a wooded area about quarter of a mile from the family home, six months after she was last seen.
