At least 33 border police have died in attacks by the Taliban on several border posts in east Afghanistan.

Provincial Governor Jamaludin Badar says the fighting lasted for two days and five civilians had also been killed.

On Tuesday, outgoing NATO commander General David Petraeus said the focus of the war was shifting from Taliban strongholds in southern Afghanistan to the eastern border with Pakistan.
