11:22 am on 8 July 2011

At least 33 people died when an express train struck a bus carrying a wedding party in India's Uttar Pradesh state.

The bus, which was carrying 100 passengers, stopped on a level crossing in Patiyali after its axle broke.

Passengers sitting on the roof of the bus were thrown off while those inside were crushed.

No one on the train was hurt. More than 30 people travelling on the bus were taken to nearby hospitals.

The bride and groom were travelling separately and were not hurt.

The BBC reports an inquiry has been ordered into the cause of the accident.
