The United Nations Security Council has recommended the Republic of South Sudan for membership of the UN.
The full General Assembly will vote on Thursday to make the new nation the world body's 193rd member.
South Sudan officially declared independence from Sudan on 9 July after decades of civil war.
Vice President Riek Machar Teny says his country will still face challenges.
