The street outside the Australian Consulate was closed on Thursday afternoon after a suspicious package was left at the front gate of the building.
The bomb squad was called to the consulate in Denpasar after a man visiting the building left a small bag there.
A search was underway for the man, described as a foreign citizen.
Indonesian police are yet to confirm whether the bag contained any explosive material.
