The Mexican army has discovered a huge field with mature marijuana in the northern state of Baja California.

Soldiers found the plantation near the town of San Quintin. It measures 1.2sq km and was surrounded by a hedge of cacti.

Officials say it is the largest marijuana plantation ever found in Mexico and would have yielded a harvest worth about $160 million.

The BBC reports six people have been arrested. The plants will be destroyed.
