At least 30 people have been killed and more than 50 injured by a truck bomb in the centre of the southern Afghan city of Kandahar.
The Provincial Governor says all those killed or wounded were civilians.
There was confusion over whether the explosion was from one big truck bomb or a series of smaller, simultaneous devices.
Witnesses said there was heavy gunfire afterwards.
The BBC reports Kandahar is a stronghold of the Taliban. There have been a number of attacks in the city this year.
