Uzbek quake kills 13

A powerful earthquake has killed at least 13 people in Uzbekistan, sending people on to the streets in panic.

The country's Emergencies Ministry says almost 90 people were treated for injuries and 35 were taken to hospital following the 6.1 magnitude quake.

It says the victims were killed when the tremor destroyed their homes in several towns and villages.

Residents on both sides of the border between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan reported prolonged, violent shaking.
