Gunman in Texas kills five

9:19 pm on 24 July 2011

A gunman opened fire at a skating rink in the town of Grand Prairie, Texas, killing at least five people and injuring four others before committing suicide.

Police say the shooting followed a fight that broke out at a birthday party at the roller skating rink.

The condition of the wounded was not immediately known.

Police say the gunman was one of the organisers of the party, which quickly got out of control when an argument erupted between two family members.

Grand Prairie is part of a large north Texas urban area that includes Dallas and Fort Worth.
