A public sacrifice has taken place at the site of a bomb attack which killed 43 people in southern Afghanistan.

The explosion on Tuesday destroyed homes and shops in the city of Kandahar.

Hundreds of people gathered for the mourning ceremony, in which eight bulls were put to death.

The public slaughter of animals is a tradition at times of mourning and celebration in Afghanistan. The meat is then distributed to the poor.
