Port Arthur massacre footage posted on internet

Australian police say they have been flooded with calls from distressed residents over the internet postings of a forensic training video showing Port Arthur massacre victims.

Martin Bryant shot dead 35 people at or near an historic penal settlement site in Tasmania in 1996.

The 12-minute police video shows graphic scenes of the massacre and has been posted in its entirety on the social networking site Facebook, while parts of it have been uploaded to YouTube, the ABC reports.

Deputy Commissioner Scott Tilyard says it is not the first time the training tape has been posted on the internet, but police have acted to remove it.

Police have contacted the service providers in an attempt to remove the video and are investigating the source of the posting. Victims of the shooting have also been contacted.
