NZ flights delayed by Sydney power cut

9:59 pm on 30 July 2011

New Zealand-bound flights from Sydney international airport were subject to delays because of a power cut on Saturday morning.

About 20 flights from Sydney bound for Auckland, Christchurch, and Queenstown international airports were delayed by about two hours due to the outage, which affected security screening and check-in procedures.

The airport lost power at around 9.30am and it was restored about 90 minutes later.

The ABC reports thousands of passengers were affected by the delays.

The cause of the power outage is being investigated.
