Victorian Water Minister Tim Holding is expected to leave Alfred Hospital in Melbourne on Wednesday after being rescued in an alpine region of the state on Tuesday morning.

Mr Holding spent two nights in below-zero temperatures on Mount Feathertop after falling about 100 metres from a track while hiking alone on Sunday.

The hospital says he is doing well and his condition is very stable.

The ABC reports Mr Holding was spotted shortly after 10am on Tuesday.
