Govt agencies infiltrated by criminals - Mullen

US Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman Admiral Mike Mullen has warned that corruption could disrupt the transition of security from coalition to local forces in Afghanistan.

Admiral Mullen said on Sunday at the end of a two-day visit to Kabul that some Afghan government agencies have been infiltrated by criminal networks.

Saying there is a lack of governance in some parts of the country, he urged government officials to be more responsive to the needs of their people.

The ABC reports that NATO troops are scheduled to leave Afghanistan by 2014. The first seven districts were handed over to Afghan security forces in July.
