Hama crack-down continues

Security forces in Syria have renewed attacks on anti-government protesters in the city of Hama for a second day.

Tanks reportedly opened fire after a night of sporadic shooting. One report said four people had died.

Security forces killed about 130 of people on Sunday after storming the city at dawn. They later withdrew at nightfall.

The United Nations Security Council is to hold an emergency meeting on Monday to discuss the situation.

An uprising against President Bashar al-Assad began in mid-March.

On Monday, the official news agency reported he praised the military for ''foiling the enemies'' of the state.

International journalists are denied access to Syria and it is not possible to verify reports from there.

Monday is the first day of Ramadan.
