At least 15 people have died after a sightseeing boat sank in a lake in Macedonia.

The ship went down about 200 metres from the shore of Lake Ohrid, in the south west of the country, the BBC reports.

Witnesses say it sank very quickly - reportedly within about four minutes.

About 40 passengers were been rescued, of the 57 thought to be on board.

Most of the people on board are said to be Bulgarian tourists.

Lake Ohrid is Macedonia's best known tourist resort.
