President Barack Obama's top ally in the United States House of Representatives has warned of a lack of support among the public and members of Congress for increasing troop levels in Afghanistan.
Speaker Nancy Pelosi says she's not yet been briefed on a strategic review by the US military commander in Afghanistan, whose classified report is expected to be followed by a request for more soldiers.
Her remarks made her the most senior Democrat to express public doubts about support for sending more troops to fight the increasingly unpopular eight-year-old war.
