It has been reported that gender tests carried out on South African runner Caster Semenya have discovered she has both male and female genitals.

Semenya, 18, won the women's 800 metres gold at last month's world championships in Berlin.

Australian media report that the tests have revealed Semenya is a hermaphrodite.

However, the ABC reports the sport's governing body, the IAAF, says it will not confirm the findings until November.
