Turkish military aircraft have bombed suspected Kurdish rebel positions across the border in Iraq.

Deutsche Welle Radio says the PKK guerrilla group is believed to have carried out an attack on a Turkish military convoy near the Iraqi border. At least nine soldiers were killed.

Turkey responded with air strikes on a number of PKK targets in northern Iraq late on Wednesday.

NTV reported war planes struck PKK bases in the Zap and Qandil regions.
