Earthquake in Peru

A magnitude 7.0 earthquake has occurred in a remote Amazon region of Peru, shaking office buildings in the capital Lima almost 600km away.

There are no immediate reports of injuries or damage.

The United States Geological Survey says the epicentre of the quake was at a depth of 145 km near the town of Pucallpa, which lies in a sparsely populated region close to the Brazilian border.
