Football strike over in Spain

Top footballers in Spain have called off a strike and will be back in action on Saturday, after resolving a pay dispute.

The row forced the postponement of the opening games in Spain's top two divisions last weekend.

The footballers' association said it has received guarantees from the national league that players' salaries will be paid, even by clubs facing financial difficulties.

A recent study published by an accounting professor at the University of Barcelona showed the 20 clubs in the top flight made a combined net loss of some 100 million euros in the year to the end of June 2010.
