United States President Barack Obama may visit Australia in November.
The White House says it is possible Mr Obama will stop off between hosting the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum in Honolulu and attending an East Asia Summit in Bali, six days later.
Mr Obama made two attempts to visit Australia in 2010, but both trips were postponed due to domestic politics.
The first trip in March was cancelled when his plan to overhaul America's healthcare system reached a crucial stage.
A second planned visit was scrapped in June following the oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico.
