Three men have appeared in court in Australia accused of being involved in a drug ring that used Sydney Airport workers to smuggle cocaine into the country.

The ABC reports federal police arrested six men in Sydney on Sunday as the result of an 18 month investigation. Three of the men appeared in court on Monday, when the cases were adjourned.

It is alleged that the men smuggled 5.7 kilograms of cocaine into Sydney on a plane which arrived from Los Angeles in 2007.

Another kilogram of the drug was found on Sunday.

Police allege catering workers from the International Airport collected the drugs from the plane.
