Jobs plan outlined by Obama

12:50 pm on 9 September 2011

In an address to the United States Congress, President Barack Obama has laid out a $447 billion package aimed at boosting employment.

Mr Obama on Thursday proposed cutting taxes for workers and businesses and putting more construction workers and teachers on the job through infrastructure projects.

The President said the United States is facing a national crisis and he wants Congress to pass his American Jobs Act by the end of this year.

He urged Congress to act quickly. However, observers say that a deal may be hard to achieve, with politicians already focusing on the presidential and congressional elections in November 2012.
