Drought continues in England

Parts of England are still considered to be experiencing a drought, with low ground water levels despite the wet summer.

The Environment Agency says Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire, west Norfolk and parts of Bedfordshire and Northamptonshire remain in drought due to an exceptionally dry spring.

September's rainfall for central and eastern England is so far about 30% of the long-term monthly average.

Other areas in England and Wales had received between 41% - 65%.

Drought was declared in June, but the agency said it could be lifted by November or December if normal autumn conditions prevail.
